Deliverer from Orphanism

The Spirit delivers from orphanism by the presence of Jesus.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

John 14:16–20, emphasis mine

Only the Spirit can reveal to us that Jesus is in the Father, that we are in Him and that He is in us. All this is happening all the time and has been since we were introduced to Jesus. A pity that we have not been told by our leaders; a wonder that now we know!

These are only a few of the many wondrous works of the Spirit. I will speak of a few more: Giver of hope, Provider of peace, Filler with joy, Spreader of love. Paul’s prayer is for us all: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

God uses the Spirit to shed His love in our hearts and thus gives us hope.

And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. No only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Romans 5:2–5
